Last week Ian Atkinson (NGIQ) and John McDonald (NGIA) met with Biosecurity Queensland to discuss our industry’s state and national interests in getting amendments to the biosecurity regulations concerning Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA).

These discussion are important both within Queensland and nationally as the various state authorities consider harmonisation of the regulations concerning movement of nursery stock and other industry products such as growing media.

NGIQ and NGIA reaffirmed our support for the eradication program and argued that the application of a sensible regulatory regime for movement of goods was in everyone’s interest. The meeting was positive and we will keep industry informed on progress.
