The last few months have been particularly busy for the Sunshine Coast Branch. Queensland Garden Expo is a big focus for our branch in June and July. This was followed by our General Meeting in early August and the Trade Day held at Nambour Showgrounds for the first time in many years.
“Best ever” was the way many people, both visitors and exhibitors, described 2017 Queensland Garden Expo.
Even though we started the event of with a bit of rain on the Friday attendances were only slightly down and there were record numbers on Saturday and Sunday.
A standout this year was the great response to our speakers program with 80% of visitors telling us, in our survey, that they attended at least one of the many talks on offer. Every year the number of people attending for 2 and 3 days increases considerably and this is largely due to the high quality of the speakers program
Another very popular feature was the new Reflection Gardens. This was a real winner with our visitors who come looking for inspiration and ideas. It also gave exhibitors a chance to get creative and further promote their businesses. We are sure this feature will grow over coming years. Congratulations to all who participated and particularly Suncoast Water Gardens who were judged as the best display and Broadcroft Design who won the People’s Choice award.
The core aims of Queensland Garden Expo are to enthuse and inspire gardeners and to arm them with good quality information so that they can continue to expand on and enjoy their gardens. We are confident that we achieved that this year. Over 97% of visitors told us in the survey that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the event and it exceeded their expectations.
We would particularly like to thank all NGIQ members who supported the event either as exhibitors or in a variety of other capacities.
We are now looking forward to our next Branch Meeting and AGM which is a nursery visit to Big Leaf Wholesale Nurseries on 5 October. Put this date in your diary now. More information will be circulated soon.
